Training Services
It is crucial that a horse has a positive training experience. At Rusted Star Ranch, our training methods have been developed over the years from riding 100s of different horses. With the focus of horsemanship and respect from the horse, our training methods begin with a solid respect on the ground in handling and then progress to in saddle training. No two horses learn in the same fashion, so approach is tailored to each horse on how quickly they progress. A firm, gentle hand is consistent in making the wrong choice difficult and the correct choice easy for the horse during training. Updates are provided to the owners throughout training.
In addition, our our trainer has a BS Degree in Animal Science, MS in Extension Education and has an excellent working relationship with our local veterinarian and local University extension office. Rest assured your animal will be well cared for.
Training an unbroke horse should not be attempted by the inexperienced!
For those that are new to having a horse trained, we emphasis that once they leave Rusted Star Ranch the horse must not be allowed to sit in the pasture. Consistency of being ridden and ending rides with "wet saddle pads" once back home are important for the horse to further become a great riding mount and retain their training.
We encourage owners to come out while their horse is being trained so they can become familiar with cues, aids, and style of how their horse was ridden. Our trainer is happy to answer questions and have open conversations about how training is progressing.
30 DAY NEW TRAINING - $950.00
For horses that have not been started under saddle (difficult to handle horse fee with increase). Owner supplies grain, supplements and hay. Feeding is provided 2x per day. Training is for 30 days. Includes minimum 5 lessons/training sessions per week & hay.
30 DAY TRAINING - $850.00
Owner supplies grain and supplements. Feeding is provided 2x per day. Training is for 30 days. Includes minimum 5 lessons/training sessions per week & hay.
30 DAY MOUNTED SHOOTING TRAINING - $950.00
For horses to be patterned and gun broke for competing in mounted shooting. Owner supplies grain and supplements. Feeding is provided 2x per day. Training is for 30 days. Includes minimum 5 lessons/training sessions per week & hay. (
NOTE: There is a $100.00 additional fee to horses not exposed to mounted shooting via clinics, coaching sessions, etc aka being introduced to gunfire
(Due to the rising cost of ammo, there is currently a $150.00 ammo fee that will be added to the training cost for gun training).
30 DAY STARTING/RESTARTING RSR HORSES - $750.00
Owner supplies grain, supplements and hay. Feeding is provided 2x per day. Training is for 30 days .Includes minimum 5 lessons/training sessions per week.

TWO WEEK TUNE-UP - $500.00
Popular for horses that simply need a tune-up or need focused training on a particular objective. Owner supplies grain, supplements and hay.

Additional Notes:

Price includes board with a 12 x 12 stall. Training horses will have turnout time.

It is owner's responsibility for farrier service, dental services, and any veterinarian costs while the horse is at Rusted Star Ranch and in our care.

Owner delivers and picks up horse after training has concluded unless otherwise arranged.

We encourage owners to be part of their horse's training to understand and see how their horse is progressing. Rusted Star Ranch has an open door policy and encourage owners to stop in to visit.

Owners must supply health records, including immunization and deworming records.
